BTG is the inventor and producer of the original ceramic coated high-performance blade for paper and board coating.
In paper and board coating, the abrasive process occurring at the blade tip is influenced by many factors, such as linear load at the blade tip, coater speed, coat weight, coating color solids content, pigment type and base paper quality.
On steel blades, wear is induced by the multiplication of microploughing or microcutting events which occur between the coating pigment particles and the steel surface. With ceramic coated blades, pigment particles can neither plastically deform, nor cut, the ceramic. Consequently, only a micropolishing effect is produced, which explains the low wear rate.
